After Devastating Loss, Siblings Bravely Comfort Healing Hearts

Siblings Justin Makani, Keilana, Ikaia and Nohea are grieving the recent loss of their big sister.

Justin Makani (age 11) maintains his courage and strength to keep his family positive. “If he sees me extra sad one morning, he’s quick to make breakfast for the whole house,” said his mom.  “He also comforts us. He said he has seen Alika a few times, and can clearly see her face smiling at everyone watching them play.” He is a coding genius and very artistic painting beautiful art. He has a giving spirit.

Keilana (age 9) has been so brave. “She is always trying to cheer me up when she sees me sad,” said her mom. She is kind and thoughtful. She is very creative and thinks outside the box. She loves to dance and paint. After watching what her sister went through her whole life, Keilana wants to help others any way she can. She is very selfless.

Despite Ikaia (age 8) just losing his sister, he somehow knows how to keep the family smiling and happy. He comforts them speaking about Alika.  He is funny and highly intelligent. “He is very sensitive to feelings, and always wants everyone to be happy,” said his mom. “He has a way of knowing when you need a hug.”

Nohea (age 3) will open his mom’s phone to pull up a picture of Alika so he can wave to her and kiss her.  His mom said, “He is the smiling heart of the family. He shows us much love and is helping us all heal. He was the absolute golden heart of Alika, they had a truly special bond.”

The siblings were nominated by their mom, and Kids Wish Network honored these kind and courageous Heroes who continue to comfort and support each other on their healing journeys. They each received a special gift package as part of Kids Wish Network’s Hero of the Month program.
