Hero Suffers Tragic Loss and Miraculously Thrives After Crash

Emma and her family were hit by a drunk driver who was recklessly speeding at 100 mph on the highway. Her newborn sister Faye was only 4 weeks old and lost her life in the crash. Emma was sitting where the drunk driver hit and also died at the scene, but was successfully resuscitated. She suffered severe injuries including being internally decapitated, going into cardiac arrest, having a traumatic brain injury, brain bleeds, a ruptured spleen, collapsed lung, broken tibia/fibia, and a list of other complications.

Emma was initially paralyzed, but was fortunately able to start moving limbs after a few weeks in the ICU. She went through extensive inpatient rehabilitation, and it was very successful. The obstacles that Emma has overcome are extraordinary. All of her healthcare professionals are speechless when they see Emma up, walking around and talking. The injuries she has sustained should really be a death sentence for someone, but here Emma is - thriving! Emma has made such progress with her injuries, but still struggles daily with the impact that all the injuries have had on her. Her life has literally been turned upside down because of them. Every aspect of Emma’s life has changed, and is that much more of a challenge.

“She has a positive attitude at all times, and always has a smile on her face,” said her mom. “She is the definition of courageous, strong, determined and brave.” Kids Wish Network is elated to honor Emma as a Hero of the Month. Her journey of healing is miraculous, and she continues to inspire others with her bravery and positivity.

Many Thanks

Kids Wish Network could not have provided this wish to Lowry without the help of Blue Tree Resort at Lake Buena Vista, Ford’s Garage, City Works Eatery and Pour House, and the many supporters who believe in making wishes come true for kids who need hope.  Visit www.kidswishnetwork.org to learn about our different programs. Kids Wish Network has been making dreams come true for children since 1997. We are dedicated to infusing hope, creating happy memories, and improving the quality of life for children experiencing life-altering situations. We started with the single purpose of granting wishes to children suffering from life-threatening conditions but have since created additional programs to benefit kids nationwide, including Hero of the Month, Project Toy Drop, Holiday of Hope Gift Banks, and A Child Forever Funeral Assistance.
