Wish Kid Jets to Memphis For Grizzlies Final Game of the Season
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 2024): Jacob loves basketball, and wants to be an NBA player when he grows up. Watching his favorite team the Memphis Grizzlies further sparks his love of the game. Kids Wish Network made his dream come true, sending him to a Grizzlies home game, the final of their season!
Kids Wish Network flew Jacob and his family to Memphis for his personalized wish that was all about him and what he enjoys. The highlight for Jacob was the Grizzlies game and seeing all his favorite players up close in action. Being in the crowd at a live game was so exciting. There was an elevated energy being among the cheering fans, his proximity to the court, live commentary, and magnified sights and sounds within the indoor arena. He felt more connected to his team than ever before.
His family also enjoyed memorable dining at Capriccio Grill - The Peabody Memphis, Huey’s Downtown, and Curfew restaurant. Meals were graciously provided by the restaurants. Everyone went above and beyond to make Jacob feel special.
Jacob’s family stayed at the swanky Canopy by Hilton Memphis Downtown, with accommodations generously provided by the hotel.
Before Jacob’s diagnosis, he was experiencing headaches. A visit to the emergency room and testing revealed he had Chiari malformation, a condition where brain tissue extends into the spinal canal. His illness also caused a syrinx, a fluid-filled cyst in his spinal cord, so he underwent a cranial decompression surgery to prevent possible spinal damage. Jacob’s headaches eventually returned, and an MRI showed that the syrinx reoccurred. He needed a second cranial decompression surgery.
