Wish Puts Joy, Independence and Freedom in Motion

HENDERSON, Nev. (August 2023): Sloan emanates joy when riding her adaptive tricycle at school. Because she’s unable to walk or stand, it’s one of the only times she’s able to fully bask in the bliss of her own self-propelled motion. Kids Wish Network made her dream come true, giving her the same feeling of freedom at home with her own adaptive trike.

Kids Wish Network purchased a beautiful hot pink customized tricycle from Rifton, an adaptive equipment retailer who provided a discount for Sloan’s wish. Having her own adaptive trike will expand her world in so many ways, especially being able to ride alongside her family on their evening strolls experiencing nature. She also received an additional attachment to convert her bike into a stationary unit for exercise and imaginative indoor adventures when she’s unable to go outside. 

As soon as Sloan received the sporty adaptive trike, she was so excited to get on and knew exactly how to position herself for a ride. “Thank you again so much,” said her mom Stephanie. “The bike is so cool, she’s going to love it!” Sloan’s wish coming true will give her a big reason to smile each day.

Since her emergency birth, life has been a series of challenges for her to overcome. Sloan came into the world premature, weighing only a few pounds. Then at three weeks old, she was diagnosed with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome, a rare genetic condition that affects many parts of the body. Sloan remained in the NICU for several months. She had her first seizure at a year old, and has been through seven operations including an open heart surgery, and multiple procedures for complications related to her condition. Sloan is currently fed by a g-tube, and continues to undergo speech, occupational and physical therapies at school.
